I Am What I Am

Welcome, Mezeske, to tumblr. I have compiled a few dozen posts, photos, reblogs, lyrics, comments, videos and whatnot to give you a sense of who I've become after those 12 great years of education and I've tied them all together with some written posts.

You can explore the pages I've created, like "Musical Theatre" and "What I've Learned" or just scan through the home page. Enjoy :)

What Do I Actually Believe?

In 10th grade, our American Dream teachers gave us an assignment to write an essay for the “This I Believe” program put on by NPR. This was an incredible challenge for me. I know what I believe in a moment, or if someone asks me why I’m a vegetarian or if I think the arts should be kept in schools, but summing myself up in an essay is such a huge challenge, and I never think that I can ever truly capture who I am in an essay.

The best tactic in describing who I am may very well be a performance, which is funny because when I’m performing, I’m often playing someone else…But when I perform, I feel most effective. I may not be able to write a novel, create a painting, or make a film, but give me a script and I can create a character. I feel like my real ability in creativity lies in acting and singing and dancing; I am the medium in which others can create their plays and choreography. But while that may be my most successful manner of creating, it does not particularly work for a project like this.

I tried to write a traditional essay for this section, but explaining myself completely in an essay did not feel effective. So instead I’ve compiled some other posts and pictures to highlight points of my belief system. Its like a little collage- each picture is something I believe in, and I hope that you can get a better understanding of me, and who I’ve become through this format.

I have been vegetarian since eighth grade, and now I am considering becoming vegan. I strongly disagree with factory farming- I think its inhumane and unnecessary considering the technology we have today.

Prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantraswill be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.
